A Clean Vessel Fitted For The Master’s Use – Patricia Nixon

A Clean Vessel Fitted for the Master’s Use

When I think of a vessel, I think of an object designed to hold something.  It’s not made already holding something, it’s made empty.  If a vessel contains something, it needs to be emptied in order to be used for something else.  If contamination is an issue the inside of the vessel must be cleaned in order not to mix the residue of the prior contents into the new contents as a dirty vessel will contaminate what’s placed in it.

In order to get clean, it is necessary to go through the process known as dying-to-self. Luke 9:23 tells us how to die to ourselves.  If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his crossdaily and follow me.   I have to die to myself and fill myself with God so that my thoughts would be God’s thoughts.  My thoughts would contaminate what God would have me to do.  Although we die to ourselves, we still have this war going on inside.  The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 7:21-25 although I want to do good, evil is with me; I delight in God’s law; but another law is at work in me, making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work withinme.  I need a rescuer.  Second Corinthians 4:7 reminds me thatthe power is not in me, the all surpassing power is from God.  Thanks be to God he has delivered me through the shed blood of Jesus.  Because of the shed blood of Jesus, I am now purified, a clean vessel fitted for the Master’s use.  However; I have to make the choice to accept what He did.  I have to make a choice of letting go of those things in the dying-to-self process.  This process can only be accomplished by what Jesus told us in Mark 12:30-31, love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, soul, mind and strength and love thy neighbor as thyself.

A Christians life should be nothing but a visible representation of Christ. Every true believer is an ambassador for Christ II Cor. 5:20 (We are Christ’s ambassadors). Ambassadors never have a day off! Regardless of where they go or what they do, twenty-four hours a day they are representing their country. Everything they do and say reflects back upon the nation they are representing. In order to serve their country, they have forfeited certain freedoms and assumed certain responsibilities.

As Christians we are walking, talking, twenty-four hour a day representative of the King of Kings. Whether or not you open your mouth, you are communicating volumes about your Savior- by your actions and attitudes.

It is not for us to be seen; we are just the VESSEL. The most important thing is that Christ is seen and that Christ gets the glory. It is too bad when Christian workers make the VESSEL more important than the treasure of the one they represent and the treasure of the GOSPEL.

Paul metaphorically compares our lives to vessels in 2 Corinthians 4:7.  Vessels that have been awesomely crafted by God, tasked to hold great Treasure, and entrusted into our care.  When something is entrusted to you, you become responsible for it.  You become responsible for its upkeep and maintenance.  God expects us to keep the vessels clean and ready.  Not so much for our own use, but rather for that of the Master!

We’re not vessels tucked away on a shelf for show.  We are functioning, living, and breathing vessels.   Vessels that are NOT without flaw.  Life has chipped, defaced, and marred us along the way.  However, the imperfections should never cause us to lose our functionality or to make excuse.  God is always there; ready and faithful to forgive us, dust us off, polish us back up, and make us continually fitted for His use!

God has entrusted us as His vessels of honor.  There is much work to do, and we must get busy doing it!  Let’s make him proud as we pursue clean, soul-winning, responsible, resourceful, loving, kind lives fitted for the Master’s use!

II Corinthians 4:7 – But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the Excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

This verse is an encouragement to the Christian to live daily under the influence of the Holy Spirit. These earthen vessels or our bodies have fleshly desires that conflict with us being clean vessels fitted for the Master’s use. Whatever our vices are that may keep us at times from being the position to witness to others, we what they are. To name a few: not having a consistent prayers life, not studying the word. These are just (2) things that can keep us tapped into the power of God, which gives us sensitivity to the Holy Spirit to the point that He leads us to say NO. We need to know that we have the strength to say NO. Resisting the urge to sin, keeps us clean and in a position to live a life of witness of Christ to draw others to HIM!

“A Clean Vessel fitted for the Master’s Use”

For God to use us,
We must be empty, clean and available;
Not for storing flowers sent;
But the earthly body with the will to repent.

A clean vessel;
Pure and whole;
Your belief in God has saved your soul.

Old things are passed away;
Behold all things have become new.
As a clean vessel;
This refers to me and you.

Be ye steadfast;
Unmovable;
Abounding in the work of the Lord.
Your labor will not be in vain.
See 1 Corinthians 15:58;
For more knowledge to gain.

Be diligent to be found by him;
Without blemish or spot when seen;
As stated in 2 Peter 3:14.

There are other vessels
With a clean slate.
That will be entering into heaven’s gate.

Throwing away the bad;
And keeping the good;
Cleans the vessel too;
As it says in Ephesians Chapter four verses 31 and 32.

Our Pastor with a sanctified soul;
Has instilled in Christians,
God’s truce;
He is a clean vessel;
Fitted for the Master’s use.
